15 Glossary of the second reading of the partial heat transfer terms

In this glossary we will see some words that help to learn the subject and the English language

boundary conditions

a condition that is required to be satisfied at all or part of the boundary of a region in which a set of differential equations is to be solved.
Example: Expertise is necessary to apply the appropriate BOUNDARY CONDITIONS and forces to the model to extract the relevant data.

the relative power of a surface to emit heat by radiation : the ratio of the radiant energy emitted by a surface to that emitted by a blackbody at the same temperature
Example: The amount of thermal radiation depends on the emissivity of the object.

the state at which the number of calories eaten equals the number of calories used.
Example: From the fit shown in figure 4 the work function for the cathode can also be obtained: although as noted in section 4 this value includes the contact potential between the cathode and the anode in the ENERGY BALANCE and therefore it cannot be compared to any standard values.

Heat flux or thermal flux, sometimes also referred to as heat flux density, heat-flow density or heat flow rate intensity is a flow of energy per unit of area per unit of time.
Example: The second experiment measured sensible HEAT FLUX (H ) by the eddy correlation method.

the action of insulating something.

The internal energy of a thermodynamic system is the energy contained within it. It is the energy necessary to create or prepare the system in any given internal state.
Example: This means the system does work on its surroundings, and the change in INTERNAL ENERGY (U) is equal to the heat added (Q) plus the work done (W).

the rate at which heat passes through a specified material, expressed as the amount of heat that flows per unit time through a unit area with a temperature gradient of one degree per unit distance.
Example: The THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY and thickness of the material determine the rate of heat penetration.

Thermal diffusivity is the thermal conductivity divided by density and specific heat capacity at constant pressure
Example: Initial spore load: The severity of the process depends on the initial spore load; good factory hygiene keeps this low. 8.Thermophysical properties : The THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY is the controlling factor.

noun
A heat transfer problem that is symmetric about a plane, line, or point is said to have thermal symmetry about that plane, line, or point. The thermal symmetry boundary condition is a mathematical expression of this thermal symmetry.
Example: Another very important case, that can be used for solving heat transfer problems involving fuel rods, is the thermal symmetry
